Data Exchange patterns

Framework for business operations

The BDI framework establishes a perimeterless data grid that supports multiple concurrent Operational Data Stores (ODS). This framework facilitates controlled system-to-system automation of processes triggered by event-based notifications. Zero-trust principles ensure that data owners maintain control over their data, providing automated authentication, trust evaluation, and precise authorization for third-party data access.

Data exchange patterns in operational networks

The patterns of data exchange resulting from day-to-day business operations possess distinctive characteristics, driving the BDI architectural design.

Order driven operational network of parties
When a Buyer and Seller agree on the terms of a specific order, it initiates a chain of events including shipments and consignments that must be transported and exchanged between them. Both parties typically subcontract their responsibilities to various specialized entities, who may further delegate parts of their tasks to additional parties. This operational network is unique to each order; it forms when the order is initiated and dissolves upon its fulfillment.

Closed group data exchanges
The data exchanges necessary for this order-driven network to function are restricted to the parties involved in each instance and are tailored to their specific roles.

Coordination is time sensitive
The primary purpose of data exchanges in this context is to manage agreements and commitments, coordinate activities (such as planning, in-transit adjustments, handovers and fulfillment), and provide proof (of compliance or fulfillment of contractual obligations). Most of these data exchanges are time-sensitive.

Specific semantics, regulations and rules of engagement
Each type of goods and business sector has its own particular set of rules and regulations:

    • Semantics (meaning of terms).
    • Processes, obligations and liabilities (rules of engagement).
    • Roles and responsibilities.
    • Regulations.

Liability in representation and qualification
Individuals or systems act as representatives of a legal entity. It is necessary to verify the credentials and mandates of those representatives.
