3.2 Use cases Schiphol and Portbase
Over 20 years Portbase has contributed in building smarter maritime Ports in the Netherlands. Boosting efficiency through digitalization of port processes, for both vessels, cargo and (inland) transport. This has been achieved by standardizing information flows between the various parties in the maritime chain, such as the carrier, terminal, shipper, forwarder, inland operators and the Dutch Government (e.g. harbor master and customs). The next step is to share maritime data which trusted parties outside the port community. Not by onboarding all these companies on to the PCS but by sharing data in a secure, trusted and standardized way. In the first Living Labs (e.g Secure Chain) we learned a lot about sharing data between trusted parties. These lessons learned are applied in a collaboration with inland terminals where the BDI principles are applied.
To maintain its position as Europe’s top tier air cargo hub, Schiphol must continue to innovate. In recent years, the Smart Cargo Mainport Program (SCMP) took significant steps to further strengthen the airport as the smartest cargo hub. SCMP facilitates collaboration between handlers, airlines, forwarders, carriers, and other stakeholders to improve and digitise air cargo processes in and around the airport. Digitalisation is the cornerstone of SCMP and served as a Living Lab for BDI. To accelerate the digital exchange of data within freight transport, we ensured that air cargo is connected to the Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI). During this session it will be showed how this was done in the various projects.

Luc Scheidel - Cargonout
Luc Scheidel has more than three decades experience in the logistics industry. He has worked on various logistic and digital improvement programs. Currently he is part of the cargo team of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and works on improvements of airport processes for cargo.
Marco van Katwijk - Cargonout
After my studies, I started at Flora Holland and have held various positions, with my last position being Chain Manager at Flora Holland. From this role, I contributed to the slot booking implementation at the auction centers Naaldwijk and Bleiswijk. Afterwards, I made the transition to the shared service center of the Dutch banking sector and worked there as a Lean Management director on the rollout of Lean management and the implementation of SEPA, which have been the main activities. I have had the opportunity to start working in the energy market. Started at Essent/RWE/Innogy with a transition after a few years to several consecutive energy startups. Joined Schiphol - Cargonaut in 2022 to bridge the Business - ICT gap and internally guide the rollout while externally facilitating the explanation of innovation. With nearly 3 years in this role, we have succeeded in presenting the Cargo community with a new modern Port Community System and have worked on various professionalization projects with the freight community, Automatic Nomination, Cargonaut Community tables, Data sharing implementation, Secure Import.
