Track & Trace standard integrated into the Port Community System of the Port of Rotterdam
Geplaatst op 18 april 2025DCSA (Digital Container Shipping Association) has announced that the Port of Rotterdam is the first major port in the world to adopt DCSA’s leading Track & Trace (T&T) standard in its Port Community System (Portbase). This marks a significant improvement in container tracking and visibility in one of the world’s busiest ports and the main gateway to Europe.

This milestone is the result of a unique collaboration between Portbase (the Port Community System for Dutch ports), DCSA, and the Digital Infrastructure Logistics (DIL) programme.
The T&T standard enables shippers to track the location and status of their goods from door to door, regardless of the IT system or logistics service provider they use. Full integration of the DCSA T&T standard into Portbase is expected in the near future, which will lead to more efficient, reliable, and transparent export processes for companies shipping goods via Rotterdam.
The standard is already widely used by DCSA members and supports over 180 million container tracking events per month globally — accounting for 75% of worldwide container traffic. The adoption of this standard — based on the principles of the Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI) — by the Port of Rotterdam confirms the DCSA standard’s status as the de facto global Track & Trace standard for container shipping.
