Data sharing in container logistics - watch the explainer video

Published on December 12, 2025

While containers smoothly enter the port, the journey between the main port and the hinterland is frequently a source of frustration. There is a lack of efficiency and flexibility, particularly due to fragmented data across different systems and carriers.

Shippers urgently need more visibility throughout the entire journey: inland shipping, rail, and road. But how do we ensure that all links can share data safely and securely?

The Basic Data Infrastructure (BDI) offers a solution. This set of agreements is ideally suited for sharing data with 'unknown parties'. Organisations share their digital information via data services, based on agreements they make together. This creates a secure way of accessing exactly the data that is relevant in a container's journey through the chain. BDI lays the foundation for the much-needed optimisation of logistics processes and planning.

In this explainer video, we explain how the BDI is tackling this.
