BDI on your smartphone? Absolutely!

Published on January 31, 2025

The BDI Agreement System makes IT integration between businesses and governments much easier in fast-changing professional networks. In practice, many operational users rely on smartphones as their primary device — for example, drivers. The question was whether the BDI Agreement System could also be used natively within smartphone apps. The attached report shows that this is indeed possible using existing software development kits for apps.

Why is this an important result?
This means that a smartphone app can easily achieve IT integration: receiving and processing notifications, generating notifications itself, and securely exchanging data with other servers or smartphones using the BDI framework. Simply put, a delivery driver could work with one app for all parcel services simultaneously, regardless of the provider. Or a driver could communicate with all warehouse systems and negotiate changes in time slots.

Instead of using multiple different apps or portals where data must be entered manually, the app manages information exchange via the BDI framework. This also allows the full benefits of a smartphone to be utilised. For example, a voice command could automatically generate a processable notification for all involved planning and ERP systems, such as a container delivery being delayed by four hours.

The next step is to develop practical use cases that demonstrate these advantages in real-world situations.
